Trained initially at Rolls Royce Aero Engines, his expertise lies in rotating equipment, turbo machinery, and high-pressure multi-stage pumping systems. Recognising the critical importance of completion and commissioning phases in project success, Tom founded MCCS (Mechanical Completion and Commissioning Services) in 1993, aiming to provide comprehensive services to clients.

His pioneering efforts led to the development of the groundbreaking Puma Plus software, which revolutionised the industry by streamlining project processes. What aspect of your service, sets you apart from your competitors?
When I created MCCS there were no other companies offering the commissioning services we were able to provide. After 30 years and following the additions of multiple services covering pre-commissioning and commissioning we remain unique in that we have the long-term experience of providing our clients a full service from construction completion through to start-up and beyond.

In what areas do you believe your services excel?
Our primary areas are proving that construction has been completed with assistance from our in-house software, performing the non-energised testing of the systems throughout all disciplines followed by energised testing and recording of the same.

In your opinion, What draws clients to your services?
The fact that we remain a small to medium enterprise under private ownership with enormous flexibility to satisfy the client’s needs.

How do your services help you stay competitive within your industry or market?
We continue to provide the same core services we always have and are known for, while at the same time continually improving the services to stay in line with the current sustainability and eco requirements.

What advice would you give to someone considering procuring your services for the first time?
Check our track records and allow us to present the services we believe you may need at a competitive price. MCCS is less expensive than the cheaper options.

Could you share a success story that wouldn’t have been possible without your service?
We were recently requested by a client to provide a small team of qualified personnel to provide on-site advice and assistance to their operations group in taking the project from construction by the EPC contractor to operational readiness. On seeing what we were able to provide and after taking advice the client requested we performed the pre-commissioning on-site on their behalf with their operations group. This escalated into MCCS producing the required commissioning procedures and supporting documents and then performing the commissioning at site leading to a successful start-up with the client’s operations group. We have since taken on further work with the same client. The end result was an early, safe, and leak free start up and a very happy client.
